Shani teaches the Career-to-Work Study classes at Southside and Midland high schools. She has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in theater and dance. Shani began teaching in the public schools in 1997. She taught dance, drama, and oral communications. She has been teaching students with disabilities for two years.
Shani received her training from and earned a bachelors degree in theatre and dance from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She furthered her training by performing in several musicals at UALR, Murray's Dinner Playhouse and The Rep. in Little Rock. Shani continued dancing and working in theatres in San Francisco and San Diego, California, Austin, Texas, and Branson, Missouri. She furthered her education by receiving her masters degree in musical theatre and dance from Missouri State University. She has extensive training in ballet, pointe, tap, Hip Hop, jazz, lyrical, modern, and contemporary dance.
Shani has coached the Southside High School Cheerleaders and SHS Steppers for 18 years. Under her direction the SHS Cheer and SHS Steppers won individual awards to perform in the Macy's Day Parade, the London New Years Parade, the Cotton Bowl, and the Paris, France New Years Day Parade, and all the football bowl games. The SHS Cheerleaders won several regional and state competition awards. The SHS Steppers won 3 years in a row the opportunity to perform at Disney's Universal Dance Association National Dance Competition, which is aired on ESPN.
Shani owned Fusion Dance Academy for 10 years, and she has trained with dozens of master dance teachers from all genres of dance, but she is most proud to have trained with Dot Callean-Gravett.
