POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT PLANNING

Formulating Better Strategies for Overcoming Problem Behavior

Myers-Davis believes that the quality of lives can always be improved with the correct support. If you or a loved one with disabilities is struggling with challenging behavior or could benefit from positive ways to handle challenging behavior, we can help!
Positive Behavior Support Planning is a process dedicated to analyzing challenging behaviors in-depth and concluding positive strategies to manage the challenging behaviors. These services help support circles for the person with disabilities to understand the negative behaviors and create a more positive environment. Planning, in time, will help the individual learn positive behavior to replace the negative behavior. The desired outcome is to gradually reduce and ultimately eliminate the negative behavior.

Goals of Positive Behavior Support:

Qualifications & Referral Process

To be considered for services, individuals must have an intellectual/developmental disability and must be receiving Medicaid PASSE services.

With Medicaid PASSE services, the individual is provided care coordination, in which the Care Coordinator who is employed by the PASSE will manage the individual’s case and services they receive. The Care Coordinator completes a Risk Mitigation Form as part of the individual’s Person-Centered Service Plan (PCSP). The Risk Mitigation Form scores determine eligibility for Positive Behavior Support Planning services. There are two (2) types of plans they can qualify for: Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) and Behavior Prevention Intervention Plan (BPIP). High level scores on a Risk Mitigation Form will yield a Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP). Low/medium level scores on a Risk Mitigation Form will yield a Behavior Prevention Intervention Plan (BPIP).

Each participant that completes the program successfully shall be certified to formulate/manage positive behavior plans for a period of two (2) years and take on the title of Positive Behavior Support Specialist. Recertification is necessary after each two (2) year period ends.

This training program provides opportunity for growth in the state’s professional space as more people have the opportunity to learn about positively supporting negative behavior.
