There are words that are used so often, in so many ways, that we could say that they are overused. “Good” is one: something may look good, or taste good, or someone is good, or this is good for a cold, or ‘You talk really good English, John,’ or even exclaim, ‘Good Gracious!’ “When Sam tells a good joke he always gets a good laugh and a good many of us have a good time…especially when Albert says, ‘Goodness, Sam, that was a gud’n’.”

I believe that the word good is closely connected to the name ‘God’. Jesus told the wealthy ruler, “Why do you call me good?  Only God is truly good.” (Luke 18:19) God wants us to be “eager and always ready to do what is good” (Titus 2:14, 3:1), That “they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” (1 Pet. 2:12). So, what is it to do good? It is to follow God’s lead and be like Him! We may try to excuse ourselves: “What good can I do? I’m just one finite, little human.”

“We have a duty to show up in this world with meaning, purpose and commitment to doing good. And, to use any privilege that we have, to make positive changes or disrupt oppressive systems.” -Meena Harris

Doing something good is more than just a commendable act; furthermore, it’s a reflection of our innermost values and the manifestation of our shared humanity. Therefore, when we choose to lift up others, champion justice, or simply spread kindness, we are weaving a tapestry of positivity that can ripple through communities and change the world for GOOD!!

“One person can make a difference, and everyone should try.” -John F. Kennedy

Good is often a word that is overused. God wants us to be “eager and always ready to do what is good” (Titus 2:14, 3:1). So what is it to do good?
